Netball (Semifinals) - Hall 6 vs Hall 3

Published by Publications Team | Filed under Netball

Score: 32-28 (Hall 3 wins)

The night was not in favour of our hall, as the netball team suffered its first and last defeat for this year’s IHG. Our players had played superbly up to this point of IHG, and faced real competition this time round.

The first two quarters started out with both teams evenly matched. It was an intense struggle to gain a lead, but none of the teams managed to do so. The second quarter ended at 17 – 17.

With the beginning of the third quarter, the tide turned, with Hall 3 gaining a lead of three points a few minutes in. Vanessa made a good interception, but the ball was lost when Rebecca missed the goal. Hall 6 scored its eighteenth goal in the fifth minute. The next minute saw both teams scoring a point each. A missed goal by Shaleen in the seventh minute led to Hall 3 possessing and scoring. With Hall 3 scoring the twenty fourth point eight and a half minute into the game, a time out was called for our players to discuss strategy. Hall 3 scored again in the next half minute. A mistake by Hall 3 cost them the ball. The ball was passed quickly to Rebecca, but she missed the goal. A save by Shaleen allowed Rebecca another chance, which was a success. One more goal by Rebecca and the quarter ended, 25 – 21.

Four points behind Hall 3, our netball players knew they needed to play better. Hall 6 initiated the final quarter, with Shaleen scoring the first goal. Next, Hall 3’s ball was intercepted, allowing our players to score two subsequent goals, almost equalizing the score at 25 – 24. The next few minutes went by with each hall scoring in turn. At 28 – 26 with Hall 3 still leading, a missed goal by Hall 6 gave Hall 3 the ball and two subsequent goals. At 30 – 26 and without much time left, our players fought very hard (This reporter remembered Vanessa’s aggressive defense.). Our players gained the twenty seventh point, but the score difference was widen when Hall 3 scored two more points. Hall 6 gained one last point before the whistle was blown.
