Score: 3-1 (Hall 6 wins)
The last hurdle to the finals. Finally, hall 6 has reached the semi finals and ready to battle hall 9.
The atmosphere was tense unlike other matches. Facing us is a hall that has triumph many other halls to reach the semi finals. Hall 9 is a force to be reckoned with unlike other halls that we have won effortlessly. Our teams had a hard time arranging the line up as the slightest mistake could cost us our championship.
First up was the male singles with Swee Lee, an IVP, playing for hall 6. The opponent was also a strong IVP player and the match was intense, with neither side having a clear lead. However, Swee Lee won the first two match with 11-7, 11-8. The third match was crucial to hall 9 as it means losing the men’s singles. Hall 6, while being anxious to seal the victory, had lost the next two matches b 8-11, 7-11. The final deciding match was greatly anticipated. Swee Lee took a water break, and with his nerves calmed, controlled the final match and won the last match 11-5. This was by far the toughest match fought by our IVPs so far into the IHG. Congrats to Swee Lee for clinching the victory for our first match.
The ladies singles saw Ng Wen Han playing for hall 6. This was an outright slaughter. We won 11-3, 11-2, 11-1. The opponent could hardly put up a fight and score beyond 3! Hence hall 6 clinched the ladies’ single as well effortlessly.
While hall 6 has many talented non- IVP players, many had not been able to play due to their lessons. Female doubles saw hall 6 sending Venessa and Soo Huey into battle. They fought brilliantly, though clearly overpowered by the opponent’s experience. Vanessa also managed to execute a couple of brilliant smashes. In the end, they still succumb to the more experience hall 9 duo. However, all who watched the match could vow for their never say die spirit dispite facing a stronger opponent.
The mix doubles saw Li De and Yi Shi fending the title for hall 6. Though clearly more skillful individually, they had not been paired up in previous matches. Hence hall 9 manages to put up a good fight though their players were less skillful. However, with Yi Shi being an IVP and Yi De being near IVP standard, hall 9 inevitably loss to hall 6. Till now, hall 6 has 2 win and a loss.
The mix doubles saw an interesting pair. Xiao Hong, an IVP, and Karl Tan Bang Zong, an EX-IVP, playing for hall 6. though with slight struggle, they manage to control most of the matches, with both players executing powerful smashes, to win the male doubles 3-1.
Overall, hall 6 won 3-1 in a brilliant display of our powers. It will definitely be an even more exciting match as hall 6 progresses to the finals.
