Soccer (Finals) - Hall 6 vs Hall 7

Published by Publications Team | Filed under Soccer

Score: 0-1 (Hall 7 wins at Extra Time)

The soccer boys had a gripping faceoff for the championship title against hall seven on Monday evening. Throngs of hall six supporters clad in green and armed with our signature green tea bottles headed down to the SRC to cheer our soccer boys on. Right from the moment the whistle was blown, the boys fought hard. Their efforts at a tight defense line paid off as they managed to hold on to ball possession and took full advantage of our opponent’s blunders. Just a few minutes into the game, our team who managed to control the game very well, attempted to score however it rebounded off the goalkeeper. Juffri seized the opportunity and tried to kick the ball in, but missed by a fraction. The crowd went wild with anxiety and anticipation. Hall seven’s attempts at the goal were however many a times foiled either by the defense line or by our goalkeeper who guarded the goalpost tightly and who managed to dive several times in order to prevent them from scoring.

The first half of the match came to an all time high when Waileong made this impressive kick that sailed past everyone’s head, leaving the spectators gaping in anticipation. However, it flew out of the playing field. Off field, the competition between both halls in terms of louder cheers was just as intense as supporters rooted for their players. However, pit against our water bottles and booming voices, our opponents were of no match and their voices were soon drowned out by ours. Encouraged by the loud cheers, the team continued to fight hard. Another tense moment soon arose when hall seven managed to break through our defense line. However, the boys managed to recover almost immediately and picked themselves up and were able to thwart the guy’s attempt. By the end of the exciting first half, the score was held at 0-0.

With a determined and confident shout of “HALL SIX”, the boys took to the field again after the half time break. This round however saw Hall seven coming back with a different line up which enabled them to have a firm grip of the game play. With their tight defense, our players were shut down and were left with little room for advancement. As a result, many of the team’s moves were disrupted. Despite that, the boys held on and backed one another up. Perhaps it was due to this tight defense on our opponent’s part that pushed our team to support one another and this was manifested by the good teamwork and fantastic passing. Determined not to lose the ball to their opponents, each of the boys also demonstrated impressive footwork, and managed to get past the defense a couple of times. Undeterred by hall seven’s comeback, our boys put up good defense as well and managed to clear the ball several times, not giving them any chances at attack as well. At full time, the score was still held at 0-0.

Extra time was thus given and the game was to be decided with a golden goal. The crowd was roused to fever pitch by the tension of the game and the excitement in the air was almost tangible. As both teams were hungry for victory, good ball tackling and teamwork were evident. A few minutes into the game, hall seven was given a corner kick. There was some scramble at the goal post, and in the process of that, our goalkeeper was knocked over by our opponents. However, no foul was called and the game continued. Before Tianci could recover, hall seven made use of the opportunity and with a header, sent the ball straight into the goal, winning for themselves the championship title. Disappointed as they were with the referee’s calls throughout the game, the team still held their heads high and hand in hand thanked the supporters. Having come a long way since the very first preliminary match, the boys proved themselves to be a strong team with tenacity and perseverance. Well done soccer team!
