Hall 6 as Semifinalist in IHRG Contract Bridge 2009

Semifinal:	Hall 6 vs Hall 9 (0-25)

It is a very great achievement of Hall 6 bridge players because last year we lost in preliminary. Thus, thank you very much for Jun Hong, Wei Lun, Fund, and Elizabeth Teo aka E.T for your hard work so that hall 6 can go to semifinal. And also thank you for Wilson, Eddie, Kai Yang, Angel, and Novi for their great support during the game

The journey of hall 6 bridge started at IBRG when Wei Lun, Fund, Wilson, Angel, and Novi were joining the hall 6 bridge team. Since October, we have undergone training every Monday night. Then, I decided to measure how strong our bridge players are, by involving them in NTU Closed competition against hall 12 and friendly match against hall 2. Consequently, we lost to hall 12 and also to hall 2. By then, I decided to make lecture session for the basic bidding system, declarer play, and defensive play.

We have intensive training for three days at morning and night. During the training, the players are learning how to bid correctly, basic defensive play, and advance declarer play. The players are listening very well and giving questions whenever they do not understand. As a result, we are ready to give our best for the IHRG. Our target is semifinalist.

The first match against hall 9 we lost very badly by 3-25. The formation is Kadiam-Jun Hong and Wei Lun-Fund. For us, it does not matter because hall 9 players are NTU IVP players from contract bridge club. For against hall 10 and hall 11, we used another formation which is Kadiam-E.T and Jun Hong-Wei Lun. This new formation can make hall 6 to win consecutively when against hall 10 (by 25-1) and hall 11 (by 24-6). Then, Hall 6 can go to quarter final as runner-up of group A.

At quarter final, we against Hall 12, which is the winner of group C. We used formation Kadiam-E.T and Jun Hong-Fund. Even though we lost to Hall 12 during NTU Closed, we do not give up when we face them in IHRG. We gave our best work, and it results in very tight point difference. We won by 16-14 against hall 12. Hall 6 go to semifinal, YEAHH!! We are very excited until E.T go to second floor of the function hall, and she screamed, “I love hall 6!”

During semifinal, Hall 9 has shown their strength again, and we lost more badly by 0-25. We are still proud as semifinalist in IHRG Contract Bridge 2008. Great job to Jun Hong, Wei Lun, Fund, and E.T for your great, great hard work.

See you again at IHRG Contract Bridge 2009. Our target for 2009 is Finalist.
