Snooker is the second recreation game for the IHRG, and our snooker team has done us proud by attaining 2nd in position after 5 tough matches.
In the preliminary round last Thursday, we were up against Hall 13. Having a comfortable win of score 4-1 over Hall 13 is a good warm-up for our players as the next game is up against last-year snooker champs, Hall 11 in the winner-bracket match. Despite all the doubts and fears, our players gave their full concentration and put up a strong fight against Hall 11. Our players’ efforts had paid off by having victory over Hall 11 with the score of 3-2, and Jeffrey to win his opponent by scoring 126 points within 30 minutes, qualifying to the quarter-finals.
With much more time to train and build up confidence, our team had another good match against Hall 5 with 4-1 score, moving up to semi-finals. The fourth match against Hall 2 is truly an exciting game. Initially we were down with the score of 1-2. Wen Han put up a strong fight against her opponent. Even though she was trailing behind in the start, she managed to force a tie at the end of the time limit. Given another five minutes extension, Wen Han used all her energy to focus on the game and give her opponent tough balls to hit. As a result, Wen Han put it off and won her opponent over a small margin. As for Alex, our last player is up against an IVP. With his 120% concentration on the game, Alex incredibly overcame his opponent and won the game. With the score of 3-2, we advanced to the finals, up against Hall 11, once again.
The last match for the day is the highlight of the day - The top 2 teams in Group A competing with each other from the preliminary round to finals. Hall 11, being the champions for last year, brought out a good fight with us. Our NTU number 1 Jeffrey played with his usual standard and won the first game, but our team was subsequently down 1-2 when Kok Leong and Kai Jian lost to their strong opponents. Despite that, Wen Han and Alex put up a strong fight in hope to overturn the tables. Just like the game with Hall 2, Wen Han was trailing behind with a gap, until her opponent began to make mistakes. That was when Wen Han slowly caught up and eventually won with a small margin. That overturn win gave our Hall supporters hope to win the champion, but were disappointed when Alex lost the last game. Nevertheless, everyone applauded as the great game ended, indicating the end of the Snooker IHRG.
We ended 2nd in Snooker IHRG. All these cannot be done with the dedication of the snooker players who spend their precious days for training, as well as our supporters who spend their time cheering and stand by our snooker team. Thank all of you! Without you all, we would not have made it so far! Hall 6 Snooker team, we are proud of you!
