Netball (Semifinals) - Hall 6 vs Hall 3
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Netball
Score: 32-28 (Hall 3 wins)
The night was not in favour of our hall, as the netball team suffered its first and last defeat for this year’s IHG. Our players had played superbly up to this point of IHG, and faced real competition this time round.
The first two quarters started out with both teams evenly matched. It was an intense struggle to gain a lead, but none of the teams managed to do so. The second quarter ended at 17 – 17.
With the beginning of the third quarter, the tide turned, with Hall 3 gaining a lead of three points a few minutes in. Vanessa made a good interception, but the ball was lost when Rebecca missed the goal. Hall 6 scored its eighteenth goal in the fifth minute. The next minute saw both teams scoring a point each. A missed goal by Shaleen in the seventh minute led to Hall 3 possessing and scoring. With Hall 3 scoring the twenty fourth point eight and a half minute into the game, a time out was called for our players to discuss strategy. Hall 3 scored again in the next half minute. A mistake by Hall 3 cost them the ball. The ball was passed quickly to Rebecca, but she missed the goal. A save by Shaleen allowed Rebecca another chance, which was a success. One more goal by Rebecca and the quarter ended, 25 – 21.
Four points behind Hall 3, our netball players knew they needed to play better. Hall 6 initiated the final quarter, with Shaleen scoring the first goal. Next, Hall 3’s ball was intercepted, allowing our players to score two subsequent goals, almost equalizing the score at 25 – 24. The next few minutes went by with each hall scoring in turn. At 28 – 26 with Hall 3 still leading, a missed goal by Hall 6 gave Hall 3 the ball and two subsequent goals. At 30 – 26 and without much time left, our players fought very hard (This reporter remembered Vanessa’s aggressive defense.). Our players gained the twenty seventh point, but the score difference was widen when Hall 3 scored two more points. Hall 6 gained one last point before the whistle was blown.

Netball Female (Quarterfinals) - Hall 6 vs Hall 10
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Netball
Score: 2 – 48 (Hall 6 wins)
Our netball players were back on court, after a long period since the preliminaries. With Rebecca playing as goal scorer this time round, the entire match was dominated by our team. The match began with Hall 10 in possession of the ball. But good defense followed by a quick offense lead to Rebecca gaining the first score. The Hall 10 players executed poor passing, which meant an opportunity of Hall 6 to snatch the ball. 9 minutes into the match and Hall 10 finally scored one point. The first quarter ended with the score 01 – 14. The second quarter began with Hall 10 in possession again. Eileen as goal defense made a good interception mid-pass, after which the ball was sent speeding to Rebecca, who scored the fifteenth for Hall 6. The fourth minute saw Hall 10 in strong offense, but Jing Ti prevented the ball from reaching the opponent’s goal scorer. It was an opportunity for Hall 10 to score 3 minutes later, but the goal scorer missed her shot. The second quarter ended at 01 – 26.
Hall 6 started the third quarter, with Hall 10 playing stronger defense. Our players managed a good offense at the third minute, but were met with the strong defense of their opponents. Hall 6 managed to break the defense in the fourth minute and score. Our players scored three points quickly from the sixth minute, earning a total of 30 points by the seventh minute. The quarter ended at 01 – 33.
Hall 10’s players fought harder in the fourth quarter, but poor passing and missed hoop shots lead to only one point in the fifth minute of the quarter. Our players continued with their superb game, gaining 15 points within the round.

Netball (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 9
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Netball
Score: 68 – 0 (Hall 6 win)
It was a nice warm, cloudy afternoon. But what was also nice was that our netball team claimed its second victory in the IHG preliminaries. Hall 9’s team consisted of players hardly familiar to the game. Unfamiliar but brave.
The Sixian supporters for the competition had a delightful time, cheering wildly and enjoying themselves with the beautiful play by our players. There were moments of strong defense and fast interception by Wing Han, Jing Ti and Aileen. There was Melissa with her superb scoring and Sharlene with her amazing play. And most of all, there was the lightning fast game play by our team, with the ball speeding through the court once they possess the ball, achieved through team work between the players.
Winning the first two matches, our Netball girls have secured a place in the QuarterFinals, which will be held on the 5th of January next year. Without saying, I am looking forward to the next match eagerly.

Netball (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 16
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Netball
Score: 46 – 0 (Hall 6 win)
First victory!
Our netball team, led by Charlene, has earned Hall 6’s first IHG victory. They played a superb game, gaining the first point within a few seconds from the blow of the whistle and lead the game throughout.
There was team work, there was strategy, and lots of cheering from the supporting Sixians. Our players played it fast and furious, and Hall 16 bit the dust; they never had a chance.
It was not only a game beautifully played, but also proof that Sixian bonds are still strong, that Sixians still have it in them to become champions.
