Sepak Takraw (Quarter Finals) – Hall 6 vs Hall 4
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Sepak Takraw
Score: 2-1 (Hall 6 wins)
Our sepak takraw team played superbly today, with a noticeable improvement from their last game.
1st Regu – Dino, Najib and Naim
The first match saw team work between our players, with Dino coordinating most of the attacks. Hall 4’s team was not up to scratch, and was easily beaten. Score: 21 – 10.
2nd Regu – Juffry, Liu Chang, Lv Xing
Our star player Juffry was up with his team, and boy, was he good. The match did not start out in Hall 6’s favour. At 5 – 8, with Hall 4 in the lead, our players had a time out to discuss strategy. The results were very good as our players made an improvement in their play. Equalizing at 11 – 11, our players quickly gained the upper hand. The opponents held on, making it tough for our players to score, but Hall 6 came out as victors in the end. Final score: 21 – 16.
3rd Regu – Gary, Daniel and Luthfi
Hall 6 had won the war, but there was still one battle. A friendly match was played out, and Hall 4 came out on tops this time. Dominating most of the match, Hall 4 won this game at 21 – 17.

Sepak Takraw (Grp Preliminary) – Hall 6 vs Hall 2
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Sepak Takraw
Score : 3 - 0 (Hall 6 wins)
The Loser’s pool. Its not familiar territory for Hall 6. It was indeed make or break time for us. Winning this match-up would be the only way to get a lifeline to fight for a place in the Quarters.
1st Regu: 21-15 Juffry Liu Chang Lv Xing.
From the get go, Hall 6 played like we had something to prove. To show that we didn’t deserve to be in this situation. And given that Hall 2’s 1st regu were rather outclassed by ours, things seemed to be going alright. Having eanred a quick and easy 3 point lead, Hall 6 played a very simple but effective game that saw Juffry controlling each Hall 2 serve, and dishing It to the right-inside, LiuChang who popped up with unpredictable headers that caught the helpless Hall 2 players absolutely off-guard. An quick first half ended with the score at 11-7. At 12-7, with the game seeing to be out of reach by Hall 2, they called for a quick time-out to reorganize. But it didn’t do them much good at all. Hall 6 pulled away and made the score 17-13. It has to be noted that Hall 2 didn’t rightfully earn any points. In fact, the only reason their score improved, was because of us losing points due to several mistakes. In the end, totally outclassing the opponents, Hall 6 emerged clear winner of the regu. Final score 21-15.
2nd Regu: 21-11 Dino Diar Najib
Dino, the tekong of the 2nd Regu, set the tone with a terribly massive serve that went “THUD” on the cushions of the far wall. His bullet-like serves made it a chore to keep the eyes on the ball. And hoping to even make contact with his serve was a true challenge. And not to mention, a potentially painful affair, for the opponents. And with Dino choosing to mix it up with both looping front court serves and smashing backcourt serves, pititful Hall 2 was definitely confounded. Racing off to a 11-2, the game surely looked like it was in the bag for Hall 6. In the midst of the game, Hall 2 managed to get a 5-0 run to make the score 18-9. But actually, all that did was make the scoreline look a little more respectable as opposed to really making any sort of impact in the game. Final score 21-11. Game. Set. Match!
3rd Regu: Naim Ping Xing Gerrard
Having won the match-up, the 3rd regu was played out for the sake of formalities. It was evident that Hall 2 wanted something to show for making it down to the SRC so early on a Monday morning. Indeed, they raced off the blocks for a 1-5 lead. Hall 6, for the most part of the initial stages were reduced to playing catch-up, to keep the game very close. The first half ended at 8-11, in favour of Hall 2.Hall 6 seemed to have lost their drive and bite, giving up even more points. At 9-15, Ping Xing was substituted for Luffy. Hall 2 continued to dominate the regu and made the score 9-17. This was when, Juffry’s brilliance as a coach was displayed. His substitution of Ping Xing for Luffy totally turned the game on its head. Superb headers by Luffy and great combination with the tekong Naim, allowed Hall 6 to catch up. Before we knew it, the score was 17-19! Hall 6 had made a huge comeback. This was indeed turning out to be a nail-biter of a finish. Hall 2 had to take a time-out to reorganize. ?Upon the return of the two teams, Hall 6 stormed on forward with some deft touches and beautiful serves, for which Hall 2 had no reply whatsoever. 17-19, 19-19, 20-19. And when it was down to the wire, a good and steady serve by Naim, rendered the Hall 2 tekong helpless. As the ball bounced out of play, our lads in green cheered in the throes of victory! Final score 21-19. A whitewash!
Well done lads. Great way to make up for the earlier loss against Hall 12. Good luck for the next match!

Sepak Takraw - Hall 6 vs Hall 12
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Sepak Takraw
Score: 22-20, 19-21, 21-14 (Hall 12 Wins)
Sepak Takraw Preliminary Round (Winners’ Bracket)
Lost 1-2
Heading into the match-up against hall 12 without several key players, Hall 6 knew that this was going to be touch and go. On paper though, the line-ups did look promising. But alas, it was not our night.
1st Regu (set) (Juffry, Liu Chang, Lv Xing)
This was pretty much a done deal. Hall 12 clearly lacked the bite the needed to inflict damage upon us. And Juffry, as usual, was in electrifying form. He almost single-handedly took down the entire set on his own. This is not to say that Liu Chang and Lv Xing sat back and watched the show. Indeed, they did their part by popping a couple of good returns to keep the game alive and made some good saves. Credit however, must still go to Juffry, who controlled the tempo of the game to perfection and claimed point after point with his headers to the far corners. Hall 12 did manage a last minute rally when they were down 20-16, and forced the game to be decided by a deuce. But it was too little too late, and Hall 6 won the first regu, 22-20.
2nd Regu (Naim, Dino, Najib)
Dino was oozing in style clad in a shorts over tights ensemble. And with his long legs, he made the perfect choice for a Tekong (person in the centre who starts the serve). The well coordinated trio excited the crowd with their precise shots and teamwork. It certainly looked like we were through to the quarters seeing them on the court. The left and right insides, Najib and Naim were full of tricky headers that just skimmed past the net to the near corners earning valuable points to give Hall 6 a good lead at the start 11-7. Hall 12 again lacked the killer instinct and opted to hang on by just getting the ball over the net and hoping for our guys to make unforced errors. Dreadfully though, that tactic worked. And Hall 12 caught up to even the score at 13-13. That served as a wake-up call to the guys who rallied on and gained a good 5 point lead to make the score 18-15. Just three more points to the quarters! And then it happened again. Our lads lost focus and gave up the lead in unceremonious fashion. With their occasional potshots, Hall 12 had yet again tied the score. This time it was 19-19. And before they knew what hit them, after 2 poor attempts to save the serves from Hall 12, our lads dropped 2 more points to concede the set. Final score 19-21.
3rd Regu (KaiJian, Paul, PingXing)
This was the tie-breaker. The deciding round. Both teams kept it simple and started off by producing just enough to keep the ball in the air. It was a close match in the beginning with not more than 3 points separating both teams. At 7-7, Hall 12 took a commanding lead. Our guys couldn’t take the pelting by the Hall 12 team and dropped 8 points to make the score 8-15 in favor of Hall 12. It was evident that our lads ware rather outclassed in this match-up. What they lacked in showmanship, however, they made up with the typical Hall 6 pit-bull mentality of never giving up even when the chips were down. Our guys erased the score from their heads and fought on. When the score was 8-20, with one more point before Hall 12 ended the encounter, the Hall 6 faithful rallied behind our guys and egged them on. “One point by one point!”, “Keep it steady!”. Our lads heeded our cries and did frustrate the opponents with their dogged attitude and gave them a run for their money. But it just wasn’t our night. The set ended 14-21.
Well, Its not over for the Takraw team. There is still one more match that will decide if we can qualify for the quarters. Good luck guys.
Comments :
Hall 12 has shrieking girls. Actually its this one girl in particular who has a very high-pitched voice and exceptionally irritating. Yannick took photos of her after being asked to do so. If it is uploaded, I shall post it on the forum for all to see.
Also, the support for Takraw was paltry. So sad. Where is everyone? Do come on down guys. Especially for such crucial games. Fans do make a difference. You make a difference. Make the difference.

Sepak Takraw (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 2
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Sepak Takraw
Score: 2 – 1 (Hall 6 win)
Hall 6 triumphs, clinching two wins out of three against Hall 2. The first victory was easily gained, but the second round was met with tough competition. Our players did their best and the match was close, but it was Hall 2 that came out the better team.
Win or lose, it all came down to round three. Sixians cheered on even as the match started poorly for our players. Hall 2 had the lead for the first few minutes. Once our players caught up, they took the lead all the way!
The aftermath was stunning. After a cheer for Hall 6, the team players gave three cheers to their supporters. Clearly, the players value Sixian support, and they will need all the support they can get on 22 Dec as they face their next opponent. Hall Sixians, our players need you! Go and support them!
