The first match of the double-header. The girls will be pitting themselves against Hall 15 before the guys take on Hall 11 later in the day. 2nd Inning
Hall 6 Fielding
It was still very early in the game. And only a 1 point deficit. More than enough time to score a few points and go for a good lunch. With a resounding cheer of “Hall 6 Hold Hold Hold”, The girls took up their positions.
1st : BHit. Oooh! Another costly fumble that could have seen the Hall 15 batter be caught out was fumbled. Safe at 1st.
2nd Hit. Vanessa’s pitching was not as intimidating as the Hall 15 batter took it with ease. Fortunately for us, Yiling was on the alert. A quick play to 1st saw the batter get caught out. 1 down.
3rd : BSHit. Easy play to 2nd. 2 Down!! Nicely done. One more, and we can start scoring!!
4th BSS Out! 3 down. Great work Van.

Shaz : Shit Straight to pitcher. Played to 1st just a moment too early for Shaz to get safe. 1 down. Nice try Shaz.
Wan Qing : Potfly! Caught out by the pitcher. 2 down! Only one more chance to get a lead in this inning. The crowd wanted some action!!!!
Qing : Hit a low grounder. But it was too close to the pitcher who calmly played it to 1st. 3 down.
3rd Inning.
Hall 6 Fielding
The score was still stagnant at 0-1. Now was a good time as any to finally score some points. But first, the girls were determined to hold the opponents to 0 points scored this inning.
1st : BBSHit. Yet again, poor fielding and fumbles that saw the batter reach 1st base with lots of time to spare. 2nd SBBB. But wait! It was supposed to be SBBS! The umpire had lost count. Heck even the honest Hall 15 batter said so. But no, the umpire allowed for a walk. The girls were determined not to let this get to them. 1st and 2nd loaded.
3rd : SSO! 1 down. Sweet justice.
4th S Hit Good catch by Van. Played to 2nd. 2 down.
5th Hit. Ball played to 3rd. Runner overran the base. Chin Thin, quick on her feet, tagged her out. 3 down! But wait. The umpire, who obviously had no idea how the game was played, said the Hall 15 was safe at the base. Infuriating!! But credit to Van and Chin Thin who calmed the girls down and get everyone’s head back into the game.
6th : Vanessa was out to set matters straight. SSO! No easy, underserving points for Hall 15. Not today. Not against a bunch of maniacal girls! Way to go.

Hall 6 batting.
We needed at least one more point to stay alive this inning. And boy was this inning exciting!
Yiling : SSO. 1 down. The signs weren’t too god. But faith and hope were still strong in the team.
Vanessa : B Hit. Safe at 1st.Yiling at 2nd.
Chin Thin: SSO. 2 down. Things were terribly ominous.
Ah Pok : With 2 down and trailing by 1 point and not much time left, all hopes rested on her slender shoulders. She didn’t disappoint. A good hit saw her safe at 1st and Van at 2nd. Shaz: BBB Walk to 1st. Bases loaded. A good hit could see us head back for an early day. Come on girls…. Wan Qing : BHit. Low and hard into outfield. Vanessa ran all the way home! Awesome! Score 1-1! Well done, a good point was earned under extreme pressure.
Qing: Jus tone more point and we could call it a day. Hit! Ball played to 3rd where Ah Pok got caught. 3 down.
Score : 1-1
A tie breaker ensued.
Tie-Breaker: One runner at 2nd base, in a scoring position, and 1 down for both teams.
Hall 6 Fielding
1st : Hit Vanessa caught it and played it to 3rd into the awaiting hands of Chin Thin. 2 down! Looking good.
2nd : In the euphoria of doing well, our gals lost focus for an instant. And that resulted in a costly fumble when the batter drove the ball low and hard. The ball slipped past the infield and trickled over to the out-filed. The runner on 2nd base had time to run all the way home! Batter was also given the freedom to reach 3rd and be safe. It was a very delicate situation at the moment.
3rd batter : Hit. Poor catch at 1st base. The fumble allowed the runner to reach home from 3rd.
4th batter : BSS 3 down.
Score : 1-3.
Hall 6 batting.
Now or never. 2 points or bust. The whole season was riding on this one batting cycle.
Kirana : SSO. 2 down
Joycelyn : SBHit. Safe at 1st. It was a close call. But linesman ruled in our favour.
Sera : BB And suddenly a commotion at 1st base. Linesman gave Joyslyn a warning for leaving the base before the pitch. But no harm done. A 3rd ball by the pitcher gave Sera a walk to 1st. All bases loaded. 2 down. Bring them home!!!!!!
Yiling : SSO. 3 down.
Score 1-3. Game to Hall 15.
It was a valiant effort ladies. We are proud of you. There were dubious calls by the umps and the linesmen. But none of them affected the score-line, unfortunately. The better team didn’t win today. The poorer team lost today. The season might be over for some seniors like Vanessa. But it certainly isn’t over for Hall 6. If not this year, there is always the next. Go on and mourn today. You deserve the right to be upset and disappointed. But don’t you dare let this cloud hang over you. You girls deserve a better result. And you should go out there and earn a victory for Hall 6 next year. You can do it. Ovia.

Softball Female (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 11
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Softball (F)
Score: 6 - 2 (Hall 6 Wins)
Fresh off the win against Hall 2, and sporting the brand new IH Jerseys for the first time, the gals looked ready to go for the kill. With a whole bunch of supporters along the edge of the diamond, the girls concentrated intensely on their coach Weiming as he read out the batting order. It was evident that our girls wanted to show why Hall 6 has a third golden star on our new jerseys this year. Let’s look at the play-by-play of the action on the pitch.
1st Inning
Hall 6 Batting.
1st batter Sera : 3 straight balls allowed her to walk to first. It was a good start for Hall 6.
2nd batter Yiling : 1 ball 2 strikes. Yiling could have simply not swung as the balls looked like they were heading nowhere near the strike zone. Perhaps it was just nerves. 1 down.
3rd batter Chin Thin : 3 balls gift wrapped for yet another walk to first. The pitcher was clearly having a rough start.
4th bather Vanessa : BBSB. The pitcher’s poor form allowed Vanessa to walk to first and now all bases were loaded.
5th batter Qing : BBSB. Yet again, the pitcher, feeling generous continued to let our batters advance onward. Qing to 1st, Sera walked home earning our first point. All bases loaded yet again. The Hall 11 pitcher was clearly not in the game at all with balls going wayward or too flat and nowhere near the strike zone. The Hall 6 faithful hoped that this streak would continue.
6th batter Ah Pok : It was time to take things into our own hands. The girls didn’t want a victory based on walks. They started to get a bit more adventurous. And Ah Pok was just the person to do it. On the 2nd ball, she got a good look at the ball and swung with precision. The ball was sent low and hard between the 2nd and 3rd bases. Vanessa and Chin Thin ran home. Qing at 2nd and Ah Pok at 1st. Hall 6 was up 3-0. The crowd just went wild.
7th batter Jiahui : Poor pitching again, and she was sent to 1st after 3 consecutive balls. Bases loaded.
8th batter Shaz : Walked to 1st after 3 balls. Qing walked home to make it 4-0.
9th batter Meifang : Poor hit to the middle and was caught out before she could make it to the second. But good try nonetheless. Hall 6 was down by 2.
10th batter Wan Qing : BBSB. Wan Qing walked to 1st and Ah Pok was sent home. Hall 6 up 5-0!
11th batter Sera : The pitcher finally earned her keep by uncharacteristically handing Sera a SSO. But it was too little too late. Our gals had inflicted enough damage for the 1st inning by going 5-0 up.
Hall 6 Fielding.
Vanessa took to the pitching plate in red-hot form and delivered a brilliant SSO on Hall 11’s 1st batter. 1 down. And the second batter made two poor judgment calls and followed up with two hideous bats that allowed Chin thin to catch her out. 2 down. Hall 11 somehow managed to earn two points that was a result of some fumbling at out 1st base. Our girls didn’t shut the game down till the 8th batter took to the plate. A good play to 1st saw Qing catch the batter out with ease. Well done girls for limiting the Hall 11 scoring.
2nd Inning
Hall 6 Batting.
And then it started to rain. Not even the beginnings of a downpour would cause the Hall 6 faithful to leave the pitch. Not when a good drubbing seemed to be the order of the day for Hall 11. And with the pitcher having a terrible day at the office, things seemed to be looking good for Hall 6. Not that we needed any poor pitching to aid us, in the first place.
1st batter Yiling : BBHit. Good hit to outfield and she could have run to 2nd base. But the base coach decided to play it safe and told her to stop at 1. Well done. And that’s when things become ugly. A Hall 11 player claimed to have been hit by the bat and complained to the umpire who then ruled Yiling out. 1 down.
2nd batter Chin Thin : Got caught out when she hit a pot-fly to the middle of the park. 2 down.
3rd batter Vanessa : Vanessa’s red-hot form continued on and she managed a god hit that earned her a comfortable run to 1s with lots o time to spare.
4th batter Qing : BBSS. Finally, some passable pitching by Hall 11 that ended our session of batting for the 2nd inning. 3 down. No points earned this round of batting. And though it wasn’t as impressive as the first inning, we still had a 3 point lead.
Hall 6 Fielding
1st batter : Vanessa was determined to show the Hall 11 pitcher how to do the job right. And indeed, she did. Thought the batter managed to nick the ball, Vanessa coolly caught it and played it to 1st. An easy catch by Qing sent the batter out.
The 2nd batter managed to get to 1st after a passable hit that our gals couldn’t capitalize on. Vanessa made up for that by giving the 3rd batter a SSO. An exact repeat of what happed to the 1st batter happened to the 4th and in no time, it was 3 down for Hall 11. It was as simple as that! Hall 11 didn’t even make it to the 2nd base. Due to the precise fielding of Hall 6 and special mention has to be made to Qing and Vanessa who kept a cool head and didn’t at all repeat the mistakes and fumbles of the 1st inning.
3rd Innning
Hall 6 batting.
Though leading 5-2, It was time for the girls to extend the lead and end the game.
1st batter Ah Pok : SBBB. Walk to 1st
2nd batter JiaHui : BSBB Walk to 1st. Looking good so far. The girls had a good eye on the ball and never committed unless it looked like a sure thing. With the pitcher in bad form, Hall 6 had it easy and were just waiting for the right opportunity.
3rd batter Shaz : A low hit to right-field. Easy catch by the pitcher for a play to 1st. 1 down.
4th batter Meifang : Yet another low hit and she got caught out at 1st base. Things weren’t looking all that fantastic now. We only had one more out before the entire game was in the hands of Hall 11. And no progress was made since the 1st inning. It was time to grab some points before it was too late.
5th batter Wan Qing : BBSHit. Run to 1st all bases loaded. The time was now. A keen eye was all that was needed to earn a point and a home run would guarantee 4 solid points that would definitely put the game out of the reach of Hall 11.
6th batter Sera : BBB. Ah Pok walked home. Bases were still loaded. The crowd was cheering our girls on. Our fingers were crossed and drums were blaring. Voices shouted in unison to spur our girls on and show Hall 11 that we weren’t going to let them have it easy at all.
7th batter Yiling: BBPotfly. Ball was played to base and Jiahui was caught out. 3 down. Only 1 point earned this inning to make the score 6-2.
Hall 6 Fielding
The 1st batter hit a pot-fly that was caught by our 3rd baseman. 1 down. 2 more to go. The game was not over. A 4 point lead, though significant, was not insurmountable. Hall 11, to their credit, never looked dejected. And to such deserving opponents Vanessa showed off her finest pitching. 4 straight strikes delivered with sheer precision awed the crowd, both Hall 6 and Hall 11 alike and earned Hall 11 two SSOs in quick succession! Game over for Hall 11. Final score 6-2. Brilliant work by our gals. This is magic. And by the looks of it, there definitely is more to come!

Softball Female (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 2
Published by Publications Team | Filed under Softball (F)
Score: 3-2 (Hall 6 win)
1st Inning: The match started with hall 2 batting. On their turn, they managed to secure one point. However, our team managed to level the game with a point, courtesy of some rather inconsistent pitching.
2nd Inning: The second inning dulled in comparison to the first as both sides failed to score any points. The atmosphere was however kept lively by supporters from both halls
3rd Inning: Level on terms with hall 2 at the start of the ‘final’ inning, our fielders and pitcher did well enough to prevent conceding any points. When it was our team’s turn to bat, all we had to do was score to secure the win. And score we did, twice, in fact. With a swift swing of the bat, Vanessa sent the ball far beyond the fielders’ reach. HOMERUN!!! With the first base loaded, our team scored two points and led 3-1 at the end of the 3rd inning.
Much to our dismay, a 4th inning was required as the match was deemed too short.
4th Inning: Hall 2 was able to score a point and our lead was reduced to just one. Our team however, was able to hold out and at the end of hall 2’s batting phase, the score was 3-2 to hall 6. Our batting phase was redundant and the match was thus concluded.
Overall, our team managed to keep their composure and emerged the winners.
