Published by Publications Team | Filed under Squash

Score: 3-2 (Hall 6 wins)

Squash has entered the Semifinals! Go Hall 6!

1st match – Seow Hong
Despite going onto the court knowing that the game would not be an easy one, Seow Hong managed to brace himself and entered the court with cool composure. Seow Hong’s display of perseverance during the game was highly commendable as the opponent tried to tire him out with cross courts but he pressed on and defended every ball that came his way. He did not concede defeat until the game finally ended after 2 sets. Seow Hong is without a doubt an exemplary captain!

2nd match – Ling An
Good things come in small packages and Ling An with her quick reflexes and powerful straight drives left the supporters in awe, and her opponent gasping for air. Before we knew it, she won both sets, only losing 2 points to the opposing team.

3rd match – Poh Shen
Poh Shen played the game with marvellous shot selections and gave his opponent a tough time with cross courts that made his opponent cover great distances across the courts. However, his opponent was very agile and had great stamina, defending most balls driven by Poh Shen. Poh Shen fought hard in the first set but eventually conceded defeat. However, the Sixers cheered him on and he definitely gave the opponent a very difficult time in the second set, catching up with a few points everytime his opponent scored. Although he lost the second set, Poh Shen never did lose focus of the game and his perseverance is admirable.

4th – Ling Han
Elder sister Ling Han scored her first point on her first serve within seconds. Her devastating power and fast exchanges enabled her to clear the first set with a clean sweep of 9-0. In the second set, her opponent fought hard to gain a point but Ling Han eventually cleared the second set with 9-1 as she had excellent control of the game, executing lower court shots like a drop to slow the pace of the game to her own advantage.

5th – Kasster
Endowed with speed and agility, Kasster ended the first set with a clean sweep. In the second set, Kasster scored again with strong straight drives within seconds. However, his opponent managed to catch up with 4 points, bringing the score to 7-4. With that, Kasster fought hard and did not give his opponent any chance to score. With excellent footwork and fast reflexes, it was evident who the stronger player was and the game ended with victory cheers from Hall 6.

Hall 6 (3set) - Hall 4 (0 set) (Hall 6 win)

The first game of squash was an exciting one as Nelson had to put up a tough fight against Hall 4’s senior hall fellow.

Although Nelson lost in terms of experience, his fighting spirit was admirable. Sixers constantly cheer him on throughout the game. Sisters Ling An and Ling Han, daughters of Hall 6’s very own Hall Fellow, amazed the crowd with astonishing agility and powerful straight drives, beating their opponents hands down.Swift movements and quick reflexes by Kasster in his first set resulted in a clean sweep which spend over in 5 minutes. In the second set, the opponent, who was determined to fight back, was too slow to react to kasster’s fast and strategic hits, ending the game with a score of 9-1.

The final game by Seow Hong was accompanied by slight complacency in the first minute, causing him to lose 3 points at the beginning. However after getting into the game, he impressed the crowd with careful anticipation of the kind of shot the opponent was going to play and with many quick and dynamic straight drives. Without much difficulty, he caught up with a score of 9-3. The second set was a breeze, ending the game with yet another clean sweep of 9-0.

Anticipate more action in their next game on the 26th December!

Squash (Grp Preliminary) - Hall 6 vs Hall 2

Published by Publications Team | Filed under Squash

Score: 3 - 2 to Hall 6

Winning the decisive match today against Hall 2, Hall 6 has advanced into the quarter finals, to be played on 7th Jan.

1st Match - Poh Shen

It was well known that the odds were placed against him as our Hall 6 player entered the court to face his opponent - a more seasoned Squash player. Being stretched by well placed shots by his opponent to the back corners of the court and the front corners, both sets were eventually conceded at 9-1, 9-1 to Hall 2.

2nd Match - Ling Han

With Ling Han winning the service, she started of the match cool-headed, unfortunately losing the service to her opponent. The service passed through many times between the 2 players. Initially gaining a 4-0 lead by attacking Ling Han with a series of well-executed boasts and lob services, her adversary from Hall 2 proceeded on to gain another 2 points, bringing the set score to 6-0 now.

Though frustrated due to the errs which she made, Ling Han continued to pressure her opponent with cross courts. Capitalising on the loose straight drive return by executing volley drops, Ling Han chased back the score to 8-6, winning the first set 9-6 by a well placed straight drive to the back of the court.

The second set proceeded on to 9-0 quickly, as Ling Han, with no pressure, played her game to the back of the court, securing the determining point.

3rd Match - Kasster

Definitely the most anticipated match for us at the Squash Courts today. Both players played the ball tight and fast, driving it straight down the court, picking up the drops, attacking and waiting to capitalise on their opponent’s mistakes. Shouts of frustration echoed through the court as each player had fair shares of their own moment of errors. First set to Hall 6: 9-0.

The second set saw both players playing more towards the front court, executing more drop shots and kill shots as the game progressed. Slowly, Kasster’s opponent started to lag behind in terms and points and footwork, allowing us to secure a second point with a 9-0 win.

4th Match - Ling An

Next up was Ling An, who despite her age, plays incredibly well. Dawning the jersey number 32 on her back, she executed her strokes well, proving to much of an adversary to her opponent on court. Both sets were gained with ease, 9-2, 9-0.

With the third point gained by Ling An, we have in fact won today’s match and proceeded on to the Quarters.

5th Match - Seow Hong

Our captain Seow Hong entered through the glass door beaming from Ling An’s victory. Facing another of Hall 2’s seasoned squash players, he put up a good fight, and finally conceded both sets at 9-0, 9-0.
