President’s speech

Sports Director’s speech

Sports Director

2007/2008 IHG is the time Hall 6 unites. With a traditional name, Sports Hall, to uphold and a title, Sports Champions, to defend, Hall 6 is facing this IHG with excitement and pressure. Even without me saying anything, I’m sure all our hall players and residents have already set a goal in mind, and do their very best to achieve the goal.

Putting all names, titles and winnings aside, I feel that there are more important things to achieve in IHG, and that is success. However, success does not measured by winning or losing. In every game, there will be a winner and a loser, it’s not realistic to measure our success based on that. Well I feel that, to be successful, we really need to hold on to one another tightly through the hard times, cheer out loud for each other during games, playing to our best to the very last minute, believe in ourselves and our teammates, stand up stronger after each fall, and to face every challenge ahead of us as a hall, a united hall.

Therefore, IHG Sports Champions will be more meaningful to us if we have a successful season. Keep going!

Vanessa

Badminton

Dear Sixians

Being in a sports hall, the badminton team looks into not only at achievement commitment but also the spread of the play game itself. As such, within our means, we encourage fellow sixians to join our training to acquire better understanding and proficiency of this social sport.

Next, in this academic year, the team aims for semi-finalist position in spite of the competition posed by other halls. With this, I wish everyone a fulfilling and exciting IHG.

Basketball Male

The basketball male team has always been a strong contender in IHG. However, we haven’t been bagging the gold medal since a long time. This year, our team is once again a strong contender for the championship and we will train harder than before to achieve this goal. Be there to support our basketball team and rest assured that we will showcase our talents and strength!

Kang Chien

Netball

Hall Six Netball reached a new height in last year’s IHG when we managed to reach the finals of the Inter Hall netball competition and clinch first runner up. This year will be no different as we strive to go even further to reach the top of our game. Hall Six is very fortunate to have a good number of talented players this year and all that is lacking right now are two ingredients to make the recipe of success come true - Teamwork and Support. On behalf of Hall Six’s netball team players, I welcome all support and participation at our games and trainings.

Rugby

Rugby has never been one of the ‘traditional’ sports of Hall 6. However, that has changed since last year, when we managed to overcome the odds and emerge as champions in the IHG last year. This year, with a crown to defend, we will be facing off against the traditional rugby powerhouses of Hall 1 and Hall 2. It will certainly be a tough fight as these Halls would be very determined to steal back the trophy. Although we do not have the luxury of having a large number of experienced players like these halls, what we lack in experience, we make up for it with passion and strong determination. We will certainly strive not to be overshadowed by these teams and be a worthy adversary. We welcome these challenges and eventually, we shall be victorious once more.

Softball Female

Softball Female team is made up of a group of passionate and tough girls. Although we do not have past experiences in the game, we do not put ourselves down as we still train and play hard. One thing I like about the team is that we have no star player, everyone is important, including the reserves. Join us in experiencing a fun and heart-warming IHG in any way you can think of.

Table Tennis

I have always thought of table tennis as one of the most technical sports around, more mentally challenging than physically demanding. Grasping the different spins and styles of play, making split-second assessments of our strategies, as well as anticipating our opponent’s strokes are some of the key challenges we face. Though it is not often perceived as a team sport, unity still plays a critical role towards achieving victory. The emotional support and mutual trust among the players serves to realign personal targets such that everyone strives for a common goal. For most of us, table tennis has almost become a lifelong pursuit. I believe what really kept us going were the experiences gained through every competition, and the bonds we forged through our victories and losses. Hence, I’m really thankful to Hall 6 for giving us the opportunity to continue to pursue our interest in this sport. I’ll also like to seek your support for our team in the upcoming Inter-hall Games. Your support will be crucia to us while we strive to uphold our title as defending champions! Thank you!

Tennis

Although tennis has never been a very team-based sport, I’m proud to say that this year’s team is the best I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. Of the 3years I’ve been here, it’s been the tightest and hardest working tennis team and I sincerely hope all you sixians out there will come down and watch our hard work get paid off on the tennis courts as we face tough as hell opponents in our GROUP OF DEATH. As defending champions, we face insurmountable pressure to maintain glory for hall6, but we definitely won’t be able to do it without your support. It’s not easy as we face hot favourites hall16 next, but we will try and retain that blazing title of tennis champions for hall6 this year, so please come down and join us in our quest for tennis glory! Next stop, victory! OVIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to us while we strive to uphold our title as defending champions! Thank you!

Goodday Champions!

For those of us who were around last year, only we knew how painful it was to watch the overall title go to some other hall even though we beat them overall on total points amassed. Too bad the IH system isn’t based on that. It was a good thing we reclaimed out rightful sports title though.

This season, I’d say we go one step further by clinching the overall title. This year is the best chance to do it in a long while. This, i know because we have many new and existing talents among many sports and recreation games, especially so for this year.

Every sixian should be proud to be one. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the field, the courts, the pool, the scrabble table, being the water-boy/girl, or simply by the sides cheering your lungs out. EVERYONE MATTERS IN MAKING HALL 6 WHAT SHE SHOULD BE.

Let’s put our WHOLE HEART into this.
Let’s fight our battles and win this war, without compromising our integrity and sportsmanship in the process. Only then, can we call ourselves deserving champions.
Let’s sweat blood and tears for each other.
Let’s make it a good first season for our new blood; and the best season for our graduating seniors.

Volleyball Male

We may have started as strangers, a passerby to each other or even being oblivious of each others existence. But destiny has guided us to each other and this hostel that we now call home is calling out to us. It needs us to stand together as one and give out all that we have, to bring home the pride and glory of taking the gold in the upcoming Inter-Hall Games. Obstacles may be aplenty but with faith and tenacity, we will reap the seeds we have worked hard sowing at the very end.

Choon Kee

Waterpolo

Synergy:
A successful team is a group of many hands, but of one mind.
Coming together is a beginning,
Staying together is progress,
And
Working together is success.

The waterpolo team, being a coming together of many old and new players, has grown from a small novelty one to a relatively big, well bonded and hardy team.

The last IHG has taught us that we cannot forego our trainings easily. Stamina, speed and skill are all important in the matches to come. This IHG, the team has undergone numerous rigorous trainings, several friendly matches; with other halls, and also with external teams. And to top it all up, we have strength in numbers, to boost the overall confidence of the team. This year, the team has a common goal of going all the way to the top, bringing down any team that attempts to stand in the way.

However, we are still a novelty team. In order to stay ahead of the other teams, many trainings are needed; much game experience have to be gained.

The unwavering passion, enthusiasm and determination amongst the players, will be the strength and power needed to spearhead ourselves into the finals.

Swimming Team

Swimming builds up the endurance and stamina of the person taking part in the sport. In the competitivearena, it requires a lot of discipline andperseverance. It is true that swimming is a demandingsport. However, swimmers like us find the enjoyment inthe midst of the challenges we face in swimming.

You might be wondering how some of us manage to swim very quickly from one end to the other in such a short time. Simply, through training and pushing ourselvesto do better. Nothing is impossible to achieve. In Hall 6, we are comprised of seasoned swimmers aswell as new ones. Those new to the sport need notworry, as swimming is easy to pick up. The seasonedones have experience in teaching the sport. No matter which hall we are up against, especially thepowerhouses, we will definitely do our very best, justas we do in training. For this IHG, we are aiming to maintain 4th at the very least. To fellow sixians reading this, let’s give in our verybest effort for the Inter Hall Games. Cheers! Hall 6 Swim Captain Jourdan Xie
